ENGLISH READING AND WRITING SKILLS
Instruction Levels Offered:
Beginner, High Beginner, Intermediate, High Intermediate, Advanced, High Advanced.
Beginning Levels
At the beginning levels, students are introduced to English reading and writing through an integrated skills approach. Instruction focuses on developing foundational writing skills, starting at the sentence level and progressing to structured paragraphs. Emphasis is placed on using supporting details to convey main ideas effectively, alongside targeted grammar instruction to enhance language accuracy. Carefully selected, level-appropriate texts featuring engaging topics support vocabulary development and promote effective reading strategies.
Intermediate Levels
Intermediate students progress to composing three- to five-paragraph essays, beginning with personal reflections and gradually advancing to more formal writing styles. Grammar is taught contextually through reading materials and directly applied to writing tasks. Fluency is further developed through the analysis of authentic texts, including news articles and published essays.
By the end of the high intermediate stage, students are proficient in writing five-paragraph essays across various rhetorical modes such as compare-contrast, cause-effect, and persuasive writing.
LISTENING AND SPEAKING SKILLS
Beginning Levels
Beginning-level Listening and Speaking courses offer a supportive and encouraging environment where students build the confidence to communicate independently in English. Through role-plays, group activities, and informal presentations, students practice real-life interactions. Listening and speaking skills are developed through storytelling, giving directions, describing processes, and engaging in everyday conversations, enhancing their overall communicative competence.
Intermediate Levels
At the intermediate level, students refine their listening and speaking skills for academic and professional contexts. They learn to identify main ideas, recognize key details, and infer meaning from academic lectures and presentations. Speaking abilities are enhanced through structured interviews with native speakers and organized oral presentations, focusing on clarity, content, structure, voice control, body language, and grammatical accuracy. Relevant grammar is taught and directly applied in spoken communication.
Advanced Levels
Advanced Listening and Speaking courses prepare students to engage confidently in university-level discussions and academic settings. Students learn to express themselves clearly and assertively, offer constructive feedback, and manage communication challenges effectively. They develop and deliver informative and debate-style presentations, drawing on research and integrating multiple sources. Emphasis is placed on advanced presentation skills and strategies for effective academic discourse.

The General and Intensive English courses are very well structured to suit every learner’s proficiency, regardless of how long student plans to study—even if it’s just one week. On your first day, you’ll be placed in a class that matches your current English level. Each class follows a cyclical program spanning 8 to 10 weeks, with fresh topics introduced weekly. This ensures continuous, engaging learning with peers at the same level, allowing you to make consistent progress without repeating content, even if you remain in the same level for a longer duration.

Throughout the course, students systematically enhance their listening, reading, speaking, and writing abilities. Year-Round Enrollment with Seamless Progression
Courses at VI Academy starts every Monday, all year long—so you can start whenever it suits you. From day one, you’ll join an international class of adult learners (ages 18+ or 30+, based on your chosen location) following a curriculum matched to your level. Each week introduces a new topic to support steady, engaging progress. If you're registered in a multi-week course and demonstrate readiness to advance, you may move to a higher-level class mid-course, ensuring your learning remains challenging and dynamic throughout all your studies.
